North Louisiana, LA - The Governor's Office of Disabilities Affairs will be recognizing Lynn Stevens on Wednesday, December 7th at 2pm in the Old State Capital as part of the Governor's Outstanding Leadership in Disabilities (GOLD) Awards Ceremony. The Annual GOLD Awards is an opportunity for Louisiana to pay tribute to the achievements and dedication of individuals in the disability community.
Lynn Stevens has been selected as this year's Patsy Barrett Memorial Award Winner. Patsy Barrett was a human rights activist, and initiated the GOLD Awards in 1982 to recognize people who work for equality, justice and dignity for people with disabilities. Ms. Barrett was also involved in policy development at the national level and worked with leaders who helped formulate the Americans with Disabilities Act into Federal Law.
"Ms. Stevens, Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana's Director of Workforce Development, was selected for her leadership abilities and achiefvements as a disability advocate. Her inspiration and positive changes in the community have made North Louisiana a better place for all people", said Lillian DeJean, Senior Coordinator of Office of Disabilities Affairs.
This year's program will be livestreamed on the Governor's Office of
Community Programs' YouTube channel, as well as shown on local public stations across the state in the months following the GOLD Awards.

North Louisiana - Throughout September, Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana is celebrating National Workforce Development Month - which recognizes the hard work and significant impact made by workforce professionals in advancing national and local economies today.
"From résumé building and interview preparation to connecting job seekers to local employers and community colleges, Goodwill provides a range of services to help job seekers find good, sustainable jobs," said Lynn Stevens, Director of Workforce Development. "Since Goodwill's inception, the revenue generated from the sale of donated items has helped fund job training and employment programs for individuals throughout all of North Louisiana."
Currently, in partnership with Indeed and Goodwill Industries International, Goodwill is distributing 191 computer devices, providing 825 Lyft rides and funding costs for 20 expungements to help more individuals find employment today. Additionally this month, Goodwill has partnered with Ouachita Workforce 81, the Cities of Monroe and West Monroe, and the Ouachita Parish Police Jury to sponsor the Job & Career Expo on September 21, 2022, from 10am to 7pm.
At a time when millions of people across the nation are still looking for work, Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana is working to help people in our local community obtain the needed job skills and training to secure employment and obtain self-sufficiency and upward economic mobility. In 2021, the services at Goodwill's Job Centers helped 1,510 individuals' throughout North Louisiana with job training and job placement services, while helping 472 of those secure employment among 224 local employers.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor's latest jobs report, nationally, unemployment has remained the same and wages are growing; however, millions of workers across the country still struggle with underemployment and low wages and more than 11 million jobs currently remain unfilled.

Shreveport, LA - On Friday, July 29, Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana will facilitate a hands-on "Reality City" experience to the youth from the Future Leaders of Shreveport Summer Internship program. The event will take place at Riverview Hall beginning at 9:30am.
"Reality City "gives the youth an opportunity to experience a real life simulated scenario of balancing career, family and the pressures of every day life. Several community and corporate partners will also be in attendance helping to to make this event possible. Mayor Adrian Perkins will be onsite at 9:30am to participate and interact with the youth.
Additionally, Sheriff's Safety Town will be onsite with their simulated impairment goggles to help the youth understand the effects of drunk driving.
This is the second time that Goodwill has been able to team up with the City of Shreveport to offer such an event. "Teaching the local youth the importance of employment and resilence to obstacles in life is essential to making them better citizens", stating Lynn Stevens, Director of Workforce Development. "It's events like this that will help make our community stronger".

Louisiana - Indeed, the world's number one job site, recently announced it is investing $10 million to launch the "Essentails to Work", a multi-prong investement to help struggling job seekers in the US get access to technology, transportation and criminal record-clearing services, and is in support of Indeed's ESG/Social commitments to help 30M job seekers facing bariers get hired.
As part of the program, Indeed is investing $5M and partnered with the national nonprofit PCs for People to provide computer devices and deploy mobile hotspots to 10,000 income-eligible indivdiuals at no cost to program participants. Additionally, Indeed is also investing $1.5M in partnership with Lyft's Jobs Access Program to provide access to rides to job seekers who need reliable transportation to get to job training, interviews, or for the first couple of weeks of a new job. Finally, Indeed pledged $2.5M to provide legal record-clearing services for job seekers who have prior arrest or convictions that are eligible for expungement.
To execute the Essentials to Work program, Indeed partnered with 24 Goodwill organizations across the country to fulfill these goals. Locally, Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana was selected as one of these locations, and as part of this initiative will distribute 191 computer devices, provide 825 Lyft rides and fund costs for 20 expungements.
